BEHIND THE LENS

Pedro’s passion for the Ocean and being in the water came in his early age dedicating countless hours of swimming, bodyboarding, and surfing. His mother, a contemporary artist and a great swimmer used to take him for long distances swimming in the sea during his early childhood, making him used to swim on open seas. Pedro started to take photos using his family's Nikon 35mm manual camera as a hobby at a very young age, something unusual for a little child. His first opportunity to work in a professional environment was in 1998, in Australia, where he worked as a photographer assistant at Fishbone Studios in Sydney. During his time in Australia, Pedro had the opportunity to work with some renowned photographers, learning and developing his skills in many different fields of photography.

Surf photography came later in his life; when Pedro moved to Japan, a new start was needed. Using his photography skills combined with his large experience in the sea, Pedro was able to create amazing surf and seascape photographs, bringing a new fresh start to his professional career. Soon enough, Pedro started to get his photos published in several magazines worldwide and became one of the main contributor photographers to the biggest surf website in the world surfline.com. He had finally found his true calling! Currently Pedro shoots for the major surf magazines in Japan, being often requested to cover international surf trips and contribute to several International magazines, publishing companies, websites, and well-known world brands.

In 2021 during the Tokyo Olympic Games, Pedro worked for Globo TV filming and as a producer, covering the Surf debut in the Olympic Games and also the entire event. Pedro's work and lifestyle were recently featured in a TV documentary in Brazil for Canal OFF titled "Mares do Oriente," where he talks about his carrier as a surf photographer while exploring the Japanese coastline. In 2022 Pedro was awarded with the "Photo of The Year" prized by Australian Magazine Surfing Life, crowning his international career.

Beyond surf photography, Pedro also shoots other subjects like Cars, Lifestyle, fashion, landscape, among other things. Renowned companies like Porsche, Honda, Patagonia, Nissan, and Visa are on his clients list. Pedro also acts as a photo director, videographer, and producer for agencies that produce movies and documentaries for TV channels such as Globo TV, NHK, Disney Chanel, and others. Being essentially a surf photographer who spends long hours inside the water, Pedro knows very well how to deal with adverse situations and work under pressure. With his style and method of work, and always having the best interest of his clients at heart, he delivers quality content to all his contractors building a trustworthy partnership. Pedro is passionate about his work, and he uses his many skills to produce consistently standout images in every job he takes on.
